Sports Premium

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for Physical Education (PE) and Sport. This funding was to be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision and was part of the legacy of the 2012 London Olympics. Funding has been allocated to all maintained and state - funded schools since 1st September 2013.

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the breadth of PE and Sport provision. At Pilgrims' Cross Primary School, we review this, year-on-year, to make sure that we target the money in a way that will have the greatest impact for the greatest number of pupils. The following links will take you to detailed information of how we spend this money and the impact that this has had.

The following information is from the Government, detailing how schools have to spend this funding:

How to use the PE and Sports Premium

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

This means that you should use the Premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years
  • For example, you can use your funding to:
  • hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
  • provide existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively
  • introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport
  • support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life clubs
  • run sport competitions, increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • run sports activities with other schools

Our focus for Sports Premium this year:

  • Ensuring all children have access to high quality PE equipment
  • Ensuring all children are taught well and are developed with respect to their PE skills through the training of teaching staff
  • Ensuring the PE Lead is trained in PE development
  • Enhancing the curriculum through sports opportunities
  • Ensuring Year 5 and 6 have appropriate swimming sessions with the aim for them to swim 25 metres.
  • Support children financially with physical residential in Year 6
